On January 21st, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI) hosted its annual Winter Blast match event presented by Estee Lauder at Dave & Busters in Islandia. This year’s event was attended by over 200 Bigs and Littles, all who enjoyed a fun filled day of games, food and amazing raffles. The event also included a book fair, sponsored by Macy’s, which allowed for every Little to leave with brand new books.
Each match received a Dave & Busters unlimited power play card and 25 raffle tickets to use for the Chinese auction. Raffle prizes included a wide selection of items ranging from a free birthday party at United Skates, wireless speakers, toys, games and multiple gift cards. Bigs also received free raffle tickets for a chance to win a special set of prizes which included Estee Lauder gift baskets, an East End getaway at Hotel Indigo and a flat screen TV.
Separate from the raffle prizes, a variety of free giveaways were distributed including, designer children’s shoes donated by BCNY Synclaire Brands, handmade hats & scarves donated by Care to Knit, winter accessories donated by Steve Madden, cosmetics donated by Cassie Cosmetics and winter coats donated by various Long Island schools.
“The Winter Blast is always one of our favorite events of the year. It is an incredible opportunity for our matches and the BBBSLI team to come together, socialize and have fun! Events like this promote a sense of unity and comradery within the agency. We’re grateful for the donors and volunteers who help to make this possible,” said Nancy Travers, Director of Services for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.
BBBSLI coordinates match activities and events throughout the year as part of its on-going professional support of our programs mentoring relationships. The Winter Blast has become a highly anticipated event for both our Bigs and Littles.
A special thank you goes to Estee Lauder. In addition to their financial support as presenting sponsor, 25 Estee Lauder employees from the Asian Affinity and Hispanic Connections groups volunteered their time to help at the event.
Feeling the excitement in the room and seeing the enjoyment on the faces of our matches truly made this event a “blast” for everyone in attendance.
