Become a Big

Together, we are Defenders of Potential

In just a few hours a month, you can directly impact a child’s future. By simply grabbing a slice of pizza, taking a trip to the library or the park, you can make a difference in the life of a child. Become a big today!

What is a Big?

A ‘Big’ is a volunteer mentor who is matched in a one-to-one relationship with a child (Little) in our program. A mentor is a friend and a supporter, as well as a positive and consistent addition to the life of a Little. A Big Brother or Big Sister is not a replacement parent, a babysitter or a therapist. Children need someone to help share a different perspective on life and help to empower their endless potential.

After you become a Big and match with a Little, they are assigned a Match Support Specialist who will oversee and monitor the match. Our staff will answer any questions, guide and assist with any issues or difficulties, and ensure that all parties are benefiting from the relationship. Additionally, BBBSLI provides training and support services for the duration of the match relationship.
